10 Bible Verses That Address Racism

The last several weeks have brought on so many emotions – fear, anger, sadness, frustration, and heartbreak. The opinions of others have flooded my social media feeds, news outlets have published their own version of the facts to fit their narrative, and conversations have centered on the topic of racism and white privilege.

I have personally faced racism in my life – I recall an instance when a little girl pointed at me on a walk and asked her mom, “She looks funny. Who is that people?” And her mom said, “Bad people.” Racism extends beyond Black and White – and I feel like that’s gotten lost.

That is exactly why I don’t want to raise my daughter to see color. Because to me, at the end of the day, it’s not about color. It’s about acceptance for all.

I realize this is a highly unpopular opinion and I struggle with it because I know that if I were to voice my opinion, I would be met with judgment and dismissal. What happened to acceptance?

As I’ve tried to navigate my way through my thoughts and feelings, I felt like the only place I could turn to was the arms and ears of God. And to seek out the truth from the source of all truth…the Bible.

I found this five day Bible study on racism and it boils down to this: God showed no partiality. And if we are to be like Him, we should model the same thing. Here’s what the Bible says about racism:

  • Romans 2:11 – For God shows no partiality.
  • Galatians 3:28 – There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
  • John 7:24 – Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”
  • Acts 10:34-35 – So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.
  • Colossians 3:11 – Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.
  • Matthew 28:19 – Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
  • Acts 1:8 – But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
  • Revelations 7:9 – After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands.
  • James 2:9 – But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
  • Romans 10:12 – For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.

There is so much sin and brokenness happening in our world today because deeply rooted anger and hatred have bubbled up to the surface and people are taking matters into their own hands. But God is the only one who can avenge all injustice and all wrong. It’s not up to us.

The difference we can make is to share God’s words about racism and show up by loving one another no matter what.

Totally agree that it is about acceptance of all. So, so sorry that you were discriminated against at a young age. That is so sad.
